William John Swainson FLRS FRS (8.10.1789 – 6.12.1855) was an English ornithologist malacologist conchologist entomologist and artist. His Zoological illustrations were the first natural history books in which hand-coloured lithographs were used. Peter Dance called Swainson’s Exotic Conchology “One of the. most beautifully illustrated works on shells ever published”
